India interested in Belarus investment

An Indian company is interested in investment projects to construct three hydropower plants in Belarus. The projects are estimated at about $90 million, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told reporters on 6 December.

The matter will be discussed during the visit of an Indian business delegation to Belarus on 12-15 December. The delegation will be led by Chairman of SMS International Infrastructure Limited Abhay Harakchand Sancheti. The Indian businessmen will come to Belarus upon the invitation of Deputy Energy Minister of Belarus Mikhail Mikhadyuk.

The parties will discuss construction of the Mogilev hydropower plant (with the capacity of 5.1 MW), the Shklov hydropower plant (4.9 MW) and the Rechitsa hydropower plant (4.4 MW).

The Indian delegation is set to hold talks with the Energy Ministry officials, visit the sites where the hydropower plants are to be built and meet with local authorities.

The visit is part of the agreements reached during the recent visit of Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich to India.
