$A20 million wastewater scheme launched

The $A20 million Cowan Wastewater Scheme, New South Wales, has been launched by Minister for Finance and Services Andrew Constance and Member for Hornsby Matt Kean.

The pair joined local resident, Hugh Roberts, at his Cowan property, which will be the first to be connected to the new system.

Minister Constance said the scheme has been delivered on budget and about six months ahead of schedule.

“This investment is an example of the NSW Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state, and I congratulate Sydney Water for their excellent work delivering this wastewater scheme to the residents of Cowan so quickly,” Mr Constance said.

“With around 220 connections to be available, residents will be able to enjoy the benefits of their new wastewater system, rather than having to rely on septic tanks and a pump-out service.”

The Cowan Wastewater Scheme is a pressure sewerage system, which includes a 3.4 km pipeline along the Pacific Highway. Once connected, wastewater will be collected in a small tank installed on each property, then transferred to the Hornsby Heights Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment.

The scheme was delivered by an alliance between Sydney Water, MWH Australia, John Holland Group, United Group Infrastructure and RPS Australia Asia Pacific.

The Cowan Wastewater Scheme is part of the $A170 million Priority Sewerage Program to deliver improved wastewater services to six village areas by 30 June 2014.
