Soonchai Kumnoonsate comes shining through to become the new EGAT Governor

Soonchai Kumnoonsate, Deputy Governor for power plants at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), has been selected by a committee to become the new Governor of the organisation.

The selection committee, chaired by Deputy Permanent Secretary for energy Kurujit Nakornthap, on Wednesday reported the result to Egat’s board, saying that Mr Soonchai had the highest assessment score of the three candidates.

SoonchaiEGATThe other two candidates were Pongdit Potejana, Egat’s Deputy Governor for corporate social responsibility, and Thana Putarangsi, Deputy Governor for transmission systems.

The new governor will succeed Sutat Patmasiriwat, whose term will expire end of next month.

Once the selection process is officially completed, Mr Soonchai will become the 12th governor. His term will end in June 2016.

The newly elected governor has an exciting interview in the upcoming issue of Power Insider Asia discussing the Thailand Power Development Plan and also the impressive Lam Ta Khong hydro project. It is a great move by the selection committee who bring an executive with a wealth of experience more than capable of steering the state owned giant through an important transitional period, that will see a vast number of power plant additions.

We wish Soonchai the best of luck in his new position and look forward to hearing more from him in the near future.

Stay tuned for next issue of  PI to read about the incoming Governors thoughts.
