PLN to develop coal plant with PT Rekadaya Elektrika

State utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has on Wednesday signed a contract with PT Rekadaya Elektrika for the construction of a coal-fired power plant  in Timika, Papua, with capacity of 4×7 megawatts (MW).

The Timika plant will be supplied with turbines produced by PT Siemens Industrial Power based in Bandung, West Java.

The contruction of first unit of  the Timika plant will take 19 months, to finish contruction by end of 2014.

Samuel Farwas, manager of PLN Timika, said currently PLN Timika supplies 20 MW electricity to around 22,000 customers. One of the major features of the plant is that it boasts high local input in the construction field.
