MHPS win turbine contact for Korea

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) and Marubeni have secured a contract to deliver two M501J gas turbines and a steam turbine to power the 950MW Pyeongtaek gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant in South Korea.

Under the contract, the partners will deliver the turbines to a consortium-led by POSCO Engineering & Construction (Posco E&C) and Seohee Construction, which manage engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the power plant.

The LNG-fired facility is being developed by Shin Pyeongtaek Power, a special purpose company established by Korea Western Power (Kowepo), GS Energy and other companies.

Scheduled to be commissioned in November 2019, the plant will feature two gas turbines, a steam turbine and a generator.

MHPS will manufacture and supply gas and steam turbines, as well as provide manpower to support their installation..

The company signed a long-term service agreement to provide parts, repairs and maintenance services as well as remotely monitor operating data for the gas turbines.

Korea Power Exchange (KPX) will purchase the power generated at the facility, to serve the region.
