Indian Government Allocates RM60 Million to Sarawak Desalination Project

Water woes in the coastal areas of Sarawak will soon be a thing of the past with the new Sarawak desalination project underway. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today that the government has allocated RM60 million for the project which will benefit more than 25,000 people living in the coastal areas.

“We cannot utilise conventional methods of bringing water supply to the coastal areas. It will be costly and take more time to implement.

“The best way to solve this problem is to use the salt water surrounding the village,” said Najib at a meet the people gathering at Kampung Beladin Mosque, here. Also present at the function was Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
