Toshiba Energy Systems provide mobile Hydrogen system

Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions has delivered a mobile 30kW hydrogen fuel cell system for a test vessel that the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) and NREG Toshiba are using to demonstrate the applicability of fuel cell technology for shipping.

According to Toshiba, using the mobile unit will mean that ‘the volume per unit power output is reduced to 1/3 compared to the stationary fuel cell systems’.

NREG Toshiba and TUMSAT started testing fuel cell technology on board the demonstration vessel Raicho N in October 2016.

Yoshihisa Sanagi, General Manager of the Hydrogen Energy Business Division at Toshiba ESS, said: ‘With the high durability of fuel cell systems, Toshiba will develop various hydrogen-related technologies, including not only existing stationary fuel cell systems, but also mobile fuel cell systems, for ships, trains and cars. Toshiba will continue to spread the use of hydrogen systems.
