Audi to Develop A7 Powered by Fuel Cells

The German based automaker Audi is planning to introduce a fuel cell powertrain version of the A7, which has a good chance of hitting the production line.

Audi has big plans for its future models and after announcing that the R8 e-tron will not be mass-produced, the company is now getting ready to take on the A7. According to the guys at Autocar, the Audi A7 will receive a fuel cell powertrain version. Our source is saying that the company will begin testing the A7 fuel cell at the end of August this will apparently be an extension to the “-tron” range.

Fuel cell vehicles are normally sending energy to the battery or the electric motor, after this is generated through an electro-chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen. Little else is being known on the Audi A7 fuel cell vehicle, but the last vehicle equipped with such a powertrain, the Q5 Hybrid Fuel Cell prototype came with two electric motors, which were producing a total output of 122 HP (90 kW) and 420 Nm of torque (310 lb-ft).
