AP Genco to add additional 11,210MW by 2022

AP Genco has planned a capacity addition of 11,210 megawatts (MW) through thermal power by 2022, a senior official said.

The present installed capacity of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) is 10,645 MW.

“To meet the future energy requirements…we have taken up a gigantic capacity addition programme for generating 11,210 MW of thermal power with a total estimated cost of Rs 64,182 crore,” K Vijayanand, Managing Director, APGenco said.

In the line-up, Vadarevu Ultra Mega Power Project with a total capacity of 4,000 MW will be completed in two stages in Prakasam district, that is expected to be ready by 2021-22, he said.

“We would add another 800 MW super critical unit by 2019 at the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station at Krishnapatnam in Nellore, taking the total power capacity at the project to 2,400 MW. This has been granted a mega power project status by the Centre,” he said.

Another 800 MW capacity unit would be built at the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station at Vijayawada by 2019 while the stage-four 600 MW capacity unit at the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project would be commissioned in October this year.

Besides, the generation of 10,000 MW of solar power and 5,000 MW of wind power is also targeted by the financial year 2021-22, he said.

“We are developing a coal block in Odisha and the Centre has assured coal linkage for all our expansion programmes. We currently import 30% of the coal required for Krishnapatnam power plant,” he said.
