1 Trillion Dong Submarine Cable system proposed for Ly Son

A 43 km- submarine power cable is planned to be installed in the coming up time connecting the mainland of Quang Ngai province with the Island district of Ly Son.

?Method of power transmission from mainland to the Island by a submarine power cable system has been agreed by the Vietnamese Government.

Capitalized at amount of 1 trillion dong (50 million USD), the submarine power cable is projected to complete by the year 2014 and will run 10 km on mainland, 30 km in the sea and 3 km on the island.

Earlier, a site survey was carried out in November, 2012 by co-ordination between the Central Power Corporation (EVN CPC) and Ly Son District People’s Committee. They planned the beginning point at the Dung Quat 110 KV substation or the Dung Quat port 110 KV-substation and the ending at Tay village, An Vinh commune, Ly Son district.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Nguyen, the chairman of island district, the work of land acquisition has been pushing up and clean site will be handed over to the project owner in March 2013.

He said that over 22,000 islanders had been facing the shortage of power for 10 years and some of them use solar energy generated-electricity.

The project of power transmission from the national grid to Ly Son will bring great potential opportunities to the island district’s development in terms of society, economy and tourism as well as ensuring national defense and security on the island.
