Alstom T&D India to renovate grid substations in Bihar

Alstom T&D India, a unit of French engineering group Alstom, today said that it has bagged a Rs 50.66 crore order to renovate and modernise the grid substations in Bihar.

“Alstom T&D India has secured an order worth Rs 506.6 million to renovate and modernise 132/33KV grid substations across various locations for Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd (BSPTCL),” the company said in a statement here.

Bihar is looking to invest in revamping the power sector in the state. The State Government plans to replace the obsolete infrastructure by increasing the power capacity and providing reliable and uninterrupted electricity to its 11 crore people.

The project will strengthen the transmission system and enhance the power evacuation capacity under India’s 12th Five-Year Plan.

“Under this contract, Alstom T&D India will replace ageing and defective substation equipment with new, advanced technology, including 132 kV and 33kV outdoor circuit breaker, isolator, lightning arrestors and relay control panels,” it said.

The new equipment will strengthen the substations and hence, stabilise the transmission network in Bihar. Major equipment will be supplied from Alstom T&D India’s various manufacturing facilities across the country.

Alstom T&D India Managing Director Rathin Basu said: “Alstom is pleased to contribute to the optimisation of electrical infrastructure for the state of Bihar. Our service experts use condition and life assessments to provide high quality, cost-efficient solutions for substation renovation, modernisation or extension.”
