Yingli forms consortium for Thailand project

Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited has announced that it is forming a consortium to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for a 5 megawatt solar power plant in Thailand.

The consortium will consist of the company’s holding subsidiary Yingli Energy (Beijing) Co., Ltd.; Hydrochina International Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Power Construction Corporation; Heibei Electric Power Design and Research Institute; and Thailand’s Wattanasuk Engineering Co., Ltd.

The consortium will be providing E.P.C. services to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility, for the Thap Sakae photovoltaic power plant.

The 5-MW P.V. plant is located in Thap Sakae, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, in southern Thailand. The $19.4 million project is currently under construction with commercial operation expected to begin in May 2015.

The project will use both crystalline silicon P.V. modules and thin-film P.V. modules. The silicon P.V. modules (1 MW in total) will be provided by Yingli Green Energy in the third quarter of 2014. The consortium will procure the additional thin-filmmodules from third party suppliers.

Thailand began pushing for more renewable energy in its power mix at the start of 2013. As part of this push, they have been investing in more local solar energy projects including the 44-MW Sunny Bangchak project, said to be the largest solar project in Southeast Asia
