Possible new Desalination plant for South Australia’s Orroroo

Plans are being discussed for a $1 million desalination plant.

The project would replace the existing trouble-plagued bore water supply that has caused many problems for residents.

At a meeting with SA Water last week, Orroroo-Carrieton District Council were unveiled regarding  a business plan outlining the desalination plant. The outcome of the meetings are now being raised with the SA Water Board for possible approval of the project.

“Fingers crossed,” said council chief executive Iain Wilson regarding the likely result of the talks in which he will be involved.

“The business plan will describe the desalination plant, technical study and business case.”

The town has been plagued with damage to hot-water systems, showers and taps as a result of using bore water for domestic and business purposes.

Meanwhile, a much-delayed exemption to the River Murray Levy has been approved for the town and other Mid North districts.

This means the townspeople no longer have to pay the levy which goes toward maintaining the river system.

Ironically, by using bore water, they did not have supplies from the River Murray anyway.
