EMCO secures HVDC order worth INR4.5 billion for Champa-Kurukshetra line

Indian power equipment manufacturer EMCO Limited has secured an order worth INR4.58 billion from India’s inter-state grid developer Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for the turnkey execution of a transmission line tower package for the ±800 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) Champa–Kurukshetra line.

The 1,365 km long bipole line will connect the Champa pooling station in Chhattisgarh to Kurukshetra in Haryana. The line will be initially set up for 3,000 MW capacity and later upgraded to 6,000 MW. The project also entails setting up 3,000 MW capacity HVDC terminals at Champa and Kurukshetra, a 400/200 kV Kurukshetra gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and augmentation of the 765/400 kV Champa pooling station.

The HVDC project comprises Part A of the larger project known as Western Region–Northern Region UHVDC Interconnector for Independent Power Projects (IPPs) in Chhattisgarh being set up to transfer bulk power from IPPs coming up in Chhattisgarh’s northern region to the country’s Northern Grid
