Doosan GridTech to deliver 100MW Oz battery

Engineering, procurement and engineering (EPC) company Doosan GridTech has been picked to build a 100MW/150 megawatt-hour grid storage system in Queensland, Australia.

Vena Energy Australia is developing the project near Wandoan.

The energy storage system will play a “major role” in improving grid stability and supporting the state’s shift to renewable energy.

Vena Energy Australia head Anil Nangia said: “As our first grid-scale energy storage project, the Wandoan South BESS in South West Queensland required an EPC partner that carries Doosan’s expertise depth and market credibility.

“We view Doosan as a long-term partner who shares our desires to accelerate the transition to renewable energy in the Asia-Pacific region and to enrich local economies and communities.”

Doosan will deliver a customised battery building that will efficiently manage the safety, protection, and ambient temperature control for more than 20,000 lithium ion batteries.

The company’s control and monitoring software will operate the plant’s energy management system and allow the system’s participation in the ancillary service market.

The system will be equipped to convert to battery/solar hybrid control for the future.

Vena Energy-Australia is a subsidiary of Vena Energy, an independent power producer in the Asia-Pacific region with over 11GW in operation, construction, and development.

In Australia, Vena Energy is progressing over 2.5GW of renewable energy projects across the country.
