Alstom remain confident on Indian T&D prospects

Bullish on prospects about the domestic power sector, transmission solutions provider Almost T&D India plans to secure a major share in the Indian market, a senior official said recently.

Last week, the power transmission major flagged off two transformers from its power transformer manufacturing facility near . While it flagged off one transformer – the 100th 765kV transformer/ 500 megavolt ampere (MVA) that will step up power to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited’s substation in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, it flagged off the second transformer, which is India’s largest 765 kV class generator single phase transformer for Jaypee Group’s Bara Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh. Alstom T&D India’a President and Managing Director Rathin Basu said, “We will increase our investment in the coming years to meet increasing demand in the country”.

“We are fully confident about our skilled capacity, Entry of Chinese and Korean companies in this sector will make no difference as they will not be in a position to meet the standards of quality and proficiency set by us,” Basu said.

The company has recently  bagged two contracts worth Rs 225 crore from the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for setting up transformers.

Alstom T&D India is expecting demand of 765 kilovolt (kV) transformers to grow in the country with the 12th Five Year Plan focusing on addition of 88,000MW of power generation capacity.
