French heavy engineering group Alstom said Thursday it had completed in 24 hours the spinning of the four 60-MW turbines it installed at the Uri-II hydropower plant (HPP) in India’s state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Having completed that stage of the project, the company will now proceed with the grid synchronisation of the vertical turbines which is to take place in the next few months.
Alstom won in 2007 a turnkey contract to deliver the turbines for the 240-MW HPP from India’s National Hydroelectric Power Corp, or NHPC. The job included turnkey execution of Electro-Mechanical lot comprising of hydropower turbines, generators and auxiliaries.
The Uri II HPP on river Jhelum is to use downstream water discharge of the existing 480-MW Uri-I HPP.
