Vestas Wins 106MW Supply Contract for Australian Wind Farm

Vestas is to supply 51 turbines for the 106.8MW Taralga wind farm in New South Wales, Australia. The Danish manufacturer will manufacture and ship a mix of 1.8MW V100, 2MW V90 and 3MW V90 machines through the second half of this year and the first quarter of 2014.

Construction of Taralga is slated to take 17 months and the facility is slated for full operations by November 2014. The deal with Taralga Wind Farm Nominees No.1 Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Spanish bank Banco Santander and Sydney-based renewable energy developer CBD Energy, covers an engineering, procurement and construction contract plus an initial five-year full-scope service agreement. Vestas president for Asia, Pacific and China Jens Tommerup said:

“Vestas is delighted to be chosen as the wind energy solution provider for Taralga and to deliver the first wind power project in Australia for Banco Santander and CBD Energy.”

CBD Energy chief executive McGowan added: “As a result of using the Vestas turbines we have been able to reduce the number of turbines on the site from 61 to 51. This has considerably reduced the environmental footprint and delivered a major economic uplift to the project.”
