SunEdison to set up 18-MW solar park in Tamil Nadu

As part of tapping the solar power generation in Tamil Nadu, solar energy service provider SunEdison has set up its first 18-MW solar park in Tirunelveli in state.

The Newyork Stock Exchange-listed company, has set up the solar park to serve the commercial and industrial businesses, SunEdison President and Managing Director (AsiaOperations), Pashupathy Gopalan said.

“We have several PPA (Power Purchase Agreements) negotiations. We are offering both the models (fixed stilt and tracking system) for clients,” Gopalan told reporters here.

For setting up a plant of capacity 1MW, an investment of Rs 7-8 crore was required, he said to a query on investment for setting up the Solar Park

“By end of this year, we are expecting it to be fully operational. We have signed contracts,” he said.

He said the company was also looking at establishing similar Solar Park in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
