Smart Nation Sandbox

To encourage innovation in Smart Nation solutions and capabilities, SAS and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) have jointly launched a Smart Nation Sandbox Environment.
Supported by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, the Smart Nation Sandbox Environment platform constitutes of SAS’ data management and analytical architecture. TP will host the platform architecture and set forth the participation of end-users.
The platform will allow local technology companies, end-users and tertiary institutions to co-develop Smart Nation solutions as well as anticipatory services for the Water, Air, Health, Environment/Energy management (WAHE) and Urban Solution sectors. Such services include smart crowd management, smart health management, smart habitat and smart energy management for both government agencies and enterprises.
As part of this initiative, IDA will facilitate the introduction of local technology companies to SAS for joint collaboration to leverage the platform for their development of Smart Nation solutions, and support local technology companies for such product development efforts.
SAS hopes that this initiative will also create a partner ecosystem for knowledge sharing and mentoring of local technology companies and start-ups, while developing local manpower capabilities in analytics and alleviating the analytics skills gap.
One such partnership is with Singapore-based firm Chloros Solutions for smart energy management with analytics. SAS will integrate big data analytics with Chloros’ eco-solutions to develop analytics algorithms that will disaggregate and attribute energy consumption via energy use “signatures” of individual appliance/equipment.
“We are thrilled to be working with SAS to identify appropriate energy saving programmes. By incorporating SAS’ advanced analytic algorithms with our eco-solutions, we are better able to offer low cost monitoring with accurate breakdowns of consumption for energy efficiency improvement,” said Peter Goh, Managing Director, Chloros.
