Siemens and Japanese partner Marubeni consortium have completed construction of the Wang Noi 4 combined cycle power plant in Thailand.
The power plant has been handed over to the owner, the state-owned utility Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and entered commercial operation.
Featuring an efficiency of over 57.3 % with an electrical capacity of 770MW, the natural gas fired power plant is claimed to have high efficiency, short start-up times and the ability to handle fast load changes.
The multi-shaft unit Wang Noi 4, an extension of a power plant complex that is home to three units already, is located in Bangkok.
Siemens provided two model SGT5-4000F gas turbines, an SST5-5000 steam turbine, three SGen-1000A generators, and the SPPA-T3000 instrumentation & control system for unit 4 and is also responsible for Unit 4 commissioning.
Heat recovery steam generators, the main transformers and the cooling tower were supplied by Marubeni, which is also responsible for the civil works and erection of the plant.
EGAT Power Plant Development Deputy Governor Khun Ratanachai Namwong said, “This new plant will help us to ensure a reliable power supply for the Bangkok metropolitan region.”
