Pilot smart grid projects taking shape for India

Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, informed the Lok Sabha that Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has taken the initiative to implement several Smart Grid pilot projects in the transmission sector.

Towards this, a pilot project in Northern Region involving Wide Area Measurement System using Phasor Measurement Units & associated hardware & software at control center has already been implemented.

Similar pilot projects in the Northern Region, Western Region, Eastern Region, Southern Region & North Eastern Region have been taken up.

Mr Scindia said that a similar project covering all States and the Inter State Transmission System network has been taken up for regulatory approval of CERC.

In distribution, POWERGRID has already taken up implementation of Smart Grid Pilot Project at Puducherry.
