Japanese trading house Marubeni and construction firm Taisei are set to build a new biomass power generation plant at Ishikari city in the country’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido.
Marubeni and Taisei plan to start building the 9.95MW biomass power plant in the Ishikariwan-Shinko area at Ishikari in November, targeting for a commissioning in January 2026. The plant is designed to burn locally-supplied woody materials, mainly unused thinned wood from the central area of Hokkaido.
Marubeni has so far developed six biomass power plants in Japan. The latest project will be the firm’s second plant to use local supplies, after the 7.5MW Godo biomass plant in Gifu prefecture which began operations on 2 April, the company said.
