Lithuania & Indonesia in Bilateral Cooperation Talks

Lithuanian President Daila Grybauskaite is scheduled to visit Indonesia on Wednesday (17/05) to meet with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and discuss bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said on Friday (12/05) that the leaders will discuss opportunities in increasing economic cooperation, especially in trade, as Indonesia is interested in gaining access to the Lithuanian market.

“They will also discuss the possibilities for cooperation in the energy sector, especially renewable energy and energy conservation, as well as cooperation in agriculture and transportation,” Arrmanatha told reporters in Jakarta.

He added that the visit is expected to produce two agreements, one on renewable energy and energy conservation, and another one on transportation.

“Lithuania has expertise in the renewable energy sector, especially for biomass and biofuel,” Arrmanatha said, adding that Indonesia hopes to import Lithuanian technology.

Total trade between Indonesia and Lithuania was worth only $38 million last year, but Arrmanatha said it is likely to increase soon.

He also said that there is a potential in the tourism sector, as the number of Lithuanian tourists has grown from around 3,700 in 2015 to 5,500 in 2016.
