Solar Energy Asia Pacific
Japan’s ministry of economy, trade and industry (METI) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will work together on clean energy projects identified by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), they have said.
The two sides will work on renewable energy, energy conservation and efficiency, and other technologies for low carbon energy transition, they said.
The work will focus on the implementation of the Cleaner Energy Future Initiative for ASEAN’s (CEFIA’s) flagship projects.
They will also develop policy research and capacity building activities, share data analysis, knowledge and experiences in the energy sector.
CEFIA was established in 2019 to accelerate the deployment of sustainable energy and low carbon technologies in the region.
I-Ching Tseng at Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind Out-Law, said: “Japan has traditionally been an important partner in terms of trade and foreign direct investment in south east Asia. To ensure the continuous growth the region has been experiencing, a sustainable way to generate energy is required. The cooperation between Japan and the ADB is an encouraging news not only for south east Asia, but an important step in the global effort to tackle climate change.”
