Huge energy storage project for Taiwan Power

Taiwan Power Company has partnered with Delta Electronics to build its largest energy storage system as part of a smart grid project on Kinmen Island.

Delta will provide a 1MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system, a 2MW capacity power conditioning system, an energy management platform and environment management systems for installation at the utility’s Xia Xing Power Station.

The solution is expected to help Taiwan Power Company to stabilise the grid by quickly supplying backup power within 200ms after an unplanned generator outage takes place, provide a 30-minute buffer time to the power plant, and regulate the fluctuations caused by renewable energy on the grid.

The energy transition is a hot topic disrupting the utility industry in Asia and will be a key focus at Enlit Asia which takes place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The project is the first smart grid demonstration in Taiwan and is expected to help the country to define a model that will be used to guide the construction of smart grids on Taiwan’s main island in the future.
