Germany aids Vietnamese Wind project

Germany to grant 4.7 mln USD for Vietnam’s wind power development

Vietnam’s prime minister has approved the project to develop the country’s wind power worth 3.7 million euros (4.8 million U.S. dollars), of which Germany will grant 3.6 million euros (4.7 million U.S. dollars) as non- refundable aid, local Saigon Times daily reported Friday.

Specifically, the project, to be implemented during 2014-2018, will define and re-schedule activities to promote wind power technology development and the exploitation of wind power potentials at local and national levels.

Currently, Vietnam has three ongoing wind power projects, including one in central Binh Thuan province with a capacity of 30 MW, another on Phu Quy islands in Binh Thuan province with a capacity of 6 MW, and the third in southern Bac Lieu province with a capacity of 16 MW.

In addition, another 45 wind power projects have been registered for construction with a total output of 4,822 MW.

The national power group Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) buys electricity from mainland wind power projects at 7.8 U.S. cent/kWh and from offshore wind power projects at 9.8 cent/kWh.
