Doosan wins $562 USD Vietnam Deal

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on Jan. 4 that it has clinched a 670 billion won (US$562.55 million) order to build a coal-fired thermal power plant in Vietnam.

Under a deal with Hanoi-based Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the company will construct the 600-MW power plant, which is the same size as the existing Vinh Tan IV power plant, in Binh Thuan, some 230 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City. The 600-MW thermal power plant operation, known as the Vinh Tan IV extension coal-based power station construction project, is an extension to the original Vinh Tan IV, commissioned in 2013, in order to address a power shortage in the eastern region of Vietnam.

The company will take charge of the entire process, including the engineering, procurement and construction of the power generation facility nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) and balance of plant (BOP), with work due to be completed by August 2019.

Kim Hun-tak, CEO of Doosan Heavy’s EPC BG, said, “Starting with the 1.4 trillion won (US$1.18 billion) order to build the Mong Duong 2 coal-fired thermal power plant in 2010, the company has won some 7 trillion won (US$5.88 billion) worth of orders from Vietnam in the last five years. We will continuously make efforts to secure more orders in the Vietnamese power plant market, the capacity of which will reach 30 GW in 2020.”

Earlier, Doosan Heavy Industries has also signed a 140 billion contract (US$117.55 million) to supply equipment and auxiliary devices to both the Vinh Tan and the Vinh Tan extension plants on Dec. 25, 2015.
