Trans-Asia completes Guimaras project

Trans-Asia Renewable Energy Corp., a unit of Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., said it has fully completed and commissioned all 27 wind towers of the San Lorenzo wind farm project in Guimaras province.

The project now contributes 54 megawatts of clean and renewable power to the grid. The wind farm started delivering power to the grid as early as Oct. 7 this year.

Trans-Asia Renewable invested P6.5 billion in the project, the largest investment in Guimaras. The investment included upgrading Guimaras’ grid connection and a P570-million world-class submarine cable connecting Guimaras to Panay island.

“As a result, Tarec is currently the only wind farm under the Renewable Energy Act that is able to deliver 100 percent of its capacity to the grid without constraints,” the company said in a disclosure to the stock exchange.

The company filed an application for a certificate of feed-in tarrif endorsement with the Energy Department.

Annual energy sales of the San Lorenzo wind farm is estimated to account for about 1.3 percent of the total electricity generation and 1.9 percent of renewable energy production in the Visayas grid.

Trans-Asia said it was also exploring wind viability and project feasibility in other areas such as Nueva Valencia in Guimaras; Sibunag in Guimaras; Abulug-Ballesteros-Aparri in Cagayan, Aparri-Bugue in Cagayan and Santa Ana in Cagayan.

Trans-Asia currently has nine wind service contracts across the country, with potential capacity to deliver 400 megawatts to the power grid.
