Lynchburg-based company gets Chinese nuclear-plant contract

Lynchburg-based BWX Technologies announced today that its subsidiary, BWXT Canada, has been awarded contracts for a nuclear plant in Guanxi, China.

The company will be undertaking steam generator design and component manufacturing for Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power. The delivery of the steam generator components is scheduled for 2018.

“We look forward to supplying high-quality designed and manufactured components to support the long-term operation of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant,” said BWXT Canada President John MacQuarrie. “We are proud to have been selected for these steam generator design and manufacturing contracts and look forward to further expanding our international presence.”

The steam generator design contract was awarded by China Nuclear Power Engineering and China Nuclear Power Design Company, which are the wholly-owned subsidiaries of China General Nuclear Power Corporation.

Contracts for the manufacture of steam generator components for GFNP’s Unit 3 and manufacturing support for GFNP’s Unit 4 were awarded by Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited and Dongfang Heavy Machinery Corporation Limited.
