Guimaras wind power project takes off

THE proposed wind power project in Guimaras was recently endorsed by the Regional Development Council (RDC) as a priority development project of the Western Visayas.

The 54-megawatt wind power project is spearheaded by the private sector particularly Trans-Asia Corp. under the Phinma Group headed by President and chief executive officer Ramon del Rosario Jr.

During the Iloilo Means Business summit held at Hotel Intercontinental Manila last March 12, del Rosario said his company committed in bringing in more than P5-billion investments to Iloilo with a renewable energy project through the wind power in Barangay Sebaste, municipality of San Lorenzo, Guimaras.
Del Rosario said that Phinma is also in the field of quality education by acquiring the University of Iloilo (UI-Phinma) right in Iloilo City.

The island province of Guimaras of five municipalities is a member of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council which is chaired by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

The RDC resolution endorsing the wind power project is considered as the council’s strong commitment to promote Western Visayas as the country’s front-runner in the use of renewable energy mix by year 2020.

The project is also consistent with the Regional Development Plan, 2014-2016 discussed in the chapter on Bio-fuels and Renewable Energy.
